Dynastyduetoits“Luoguo”featurewiththemiddle

1750,thelanegota

homonymicname驴途 of“LuoguLane”,andwasdivided

intoSouthLuoguLaneandorthernLuoguLane(now

withintheAndingmenCommunity).Thenameofthe

laneremained“SouthLuoguLane”duringandafter

ongwas

brieflycalled“HuihuangSt.”duringtheCultural

Revolutionandlaterregaineditscurrentname.

SouthLuoguLanewasbuiltunderthearchitectural

conceptof“residentialblocks”–withthelaneservingas

thecentrallinedividing8parallelhutongsoneach

side,henceformingtheoutlookofafishbone,ora

“Wugong”.Thus,thelanewasalsocalled“Wugong

Lane”.SouthLuoguLaneistheonlyremaining

traditionalresidentialareainChinathatstillfully

preservesthechess-boardstylelayoutofhutongs

typicallyfoundintheYuanDynasty,withitsscale,
